If you're old (we're about 50) and you can remember back to when you were a kid, there were drive-up restaurants that served great burgers, fries, and shakes.  They serve a lot more now, but I remember the fries and shakes as being very special, and, for the most part, lost forever.

They're not lost at Pine Shack Frosty in Chester.  Having recently celebrated their 50th year in Chester, this place offers a great little nostalgic break from our busy lives.  They offer milk shakes in more flavors than I can list here (okay, I could, but I'm lazy).  I still refuse to try the key lime shake, but our friend JK enjoyed his a bunch.  They are all too thick to drink from a straw, so take the spoon that is offered and dig in for a wonderful treat.

This is about as close as you can get to the way things used to be.  It's worth pulling up and enjoying. It's also nice to eat at any place older than us.

Priced on the low side $3-$8.  Pine Shack Frosty is located at 321 Main Street in Chester, (530) 258-2593.

Even in the winter, the shakes are a treat.  Good place for burgers and chicken dinners too.
