January 2005 brought lots of snow. This is our deck and view facing the lake. We took over 4 1/2 feet of snow between Christmas and New Years.
There is a golf course out there somewhere in this January 2005 picture. This was the only clear day between Christmas and New Years. When we get tired of looking at the lake, we can look over on this side.
Here is the same picture in August, 2004, sans snow. I'm not sure whether it's prettier with or without the snow. One thing we do know, is that it is easier to drive on and off the course without all that snow. Late afternoons on our street-side deck are always very pleasant.
After I made my way out to it, we really did barbecue a leg of lamb that evening.
Back to that one pretty day in January, 2005. It gave us a chance to shovel out and get ready for the next snow.
Somewhere under this one day's snowfall is a 1998 Honda Civic that Dan needed to shovel out to get to work January 2005.
The snowblower and shovels got a workout day after day after day after... Mac, Christina, Drew and Andy all got lots of good exercise trying to keep the driveway clear between Christmas and New Years. This pic was just before we left January 2, 2005.
The snowplows piled about 12' of snow up in front of the house in this January 2, 2005 picture.
The deicer worked well so that Dan could park the little Honda car with its studded tires at the top of the driveway and get to work early in the morning. This is how we left it January 2, 2005. Then it snowed for another straight ten days, giving Dan an opportunity to get to know the snowblower, the shovel, the other shovel, and a little muscle pain.

Rick Rasmussen took this picture from the East Shore on a hot July evening.
January 3, 2004 view from our deck of the frozen lake with ice flowing past the buoys breaking channels in the ice. Our deck bears keep watch on the house from the upper deck of the house. Mt. Lassen stands silent guard in the distance.
A map of the lake. Our place is on the left side of the peninsula just above the 'f" in Golf Course.
A nice sunset shot from the house. The end of a beautiful August afternoon meant it was time to park the toys and get ready to go up the stairs. Our cabin is dwarfed by the two neighbors. But, it's ours, and we like it. The gray house is 10,600 sq. ft..
Our place from the lake side....shot from a parasail to get level with it from the lake.
It takes about 216 steps to get back up to the house from the dock. The lower is steel, the upper concrete. There is truly less oxygen in the air up at the lake, and the steps provide a lot of exercise. January 3, 2004 photo shows about 4-5' of snow on the ground, still looks big for a cabin though..
Looking from the street-side deck across to the golf course on a wintery day.
Mt. Lassen towers above everything else within many miles. We don't live at the lake alone. There are plenty of cohabitants around.
The golf course enjoys some hazards you don't see in a lot of other places. Very gutsy buck. |
