We haven't eaten at every place near the lake, but we've never starved on the hundreds of trips we've made there. You'll be able to find great food around the lake served by some pretty nice people. Our favorite places are listed here. They don't pay us or bribe us with food, so they are here because we truly think they're great.

The food and dining atmosphere around the lake ranges from the very casual to what I call "white tablecloth."  Being a home to some and a vacation spot to others, you'll see a wide variety of dress at the restaurants.  People are generally comfortable in "vacation casual" wardrobe, but you'll see suits sitting next to shorts and tee shirts at the same place, with nobody looking or feeling out of place.

Lake Almanor is still seasonal and subject to the whims of both the vacationers and the restaurant operators who try to sneak their vacations in during the slow periods of the year. Some restaurants vary their hours during the year.  Others may close for months.  Unless you know a place well, call to make sure they are open and have room. If you want to be fed, call ahead.  Phone numbers and addresses are listed here for our favorites.

We find new places all of the time, and are willing to try new places if you have any suggestions.  We only list those we like a lot, and we don't list any place that we wouldn't heartily recommend.  If they are not listed, we've either missed eating there, or we didn't have what we thought was a good experience. Remember though, that anybody can have a bad day.

We miss some of the restaurants that have closed, but we have learned to enjoy those which have taken their place.  As the area grows in population and popularity, we'll get more restaurants, and I will personally do everything I can to eat everywhere eventually.  Any typos herein may be due to my culinary over-enthusiasm, which tends to make my fingers too fat to hit just one key at a time.
